The story continues: The soap between Samsung and Apple has just added a new chapter. The Koreans have filed a lawsuit in California because the iPhone 5 infringes onto fast LTE technology for data traffic, a patent from Samsung.

Samsung has officially requested and registered a case against Apple soon after winning a court order lifting a ban on U.S. sales of the Galaxy Tab 10.1 tablet computer. Judge Lucy Koh lifted a ban on the sale of Galaxy Tab 10.1 tablet after a jury ruled that Samsung product has not infringed a patent of Apple.

“As soon as the iPhone 5 was available for purchase, Samsung began its investigation of the product,” the company said in its court filing. The iPhone 5 infringes two standards patents and six features patents, Samsung said.

“Samsung put Apple on notice that it intended to amend its infringement contentions, and provided Apple with a copy of its proposed amendments,” according to the filing.

The two smartphone manufacturers have accused each other of copying designs and technology for mobile devices. Apple and Samsung are engaged in several lawsuits related to patents in countries on four continents.

Samsung claimed, on Monday, the latest Apple smartphone, to add to an ongoing lawsuit in California, which is about eight patents. Under the protection of the right are two patents belonging to the ground floor of the wireless standards UMTS. Their actions include the synchronization of devices, features an on-screen keyboard and the display of images and videos.

The company said they preferred to compete in the marketplace with innovative products, rather than in courtrooms. However, Apple continues to take aggressive legal measures that will limit market competition and that had given Samsung little choice but to take the steps necessary to protect its innovations and intellectual property rights.

Samsung engages iPhone 5 in the process, in addition to previous iPhone models, as well as the iPad tablets and the iPod player. Apple has, in turn, various Samsung smartphones in sight, including the current top Galaxy S3 model.

Samsung has also announced a few weeks ago to sue in Apple in European courts against its iPhone 5. This is supposed to be about patents on the high-speed LTE data transmission. The case for the iPhone 5 patents claims is scheduled for trial in 2014.
